Volleyball is a team sport in which there are two teams with six players (each team) and they are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules.

 Players use their hands to bat a ball back and forth over a high net trying to make the ball touch the court within the opponents’ playing area before it can be returned. To prevent this a player on the opposing team bats the ball up and toward a teammate before it touches the court surface that teammate may then volley it back across the net or bat it to a third teammate who volleys it across the net.


The outside hitter also known as the left-side hitter attacks from the left antenna and requires a player with good jumping ability. The outside hitter is often the focal point of the offense and completes most of the attack hits. They must be able to adjust to sets coming from any location, as well as hit from the front and back rows. Also the outside hitter is the player who carries the serve and receives responsibility along with the libero.


Also known as the right-side hitter, these players need to be a perfect balance of both offense and defense. They will also get many opportunities to hit the volleyball, so similar to the outside hitter, jumping ability is vital. The main difference that sets the opposite hitter apart is their defensive responsibility. Being able to receive the serve from the opposing team is just one of the many requirements of this specialized position. Also the opposite hitter is the player who most often scores in the team.


 This is the second touch of the ball. Due to these responsibilities they need to have a strong communication with the spikers. Middle Blocker

Are players who perform very fast attacks that happen near the setter. They specialize in blocking and must attempt to stop fast plays from opponents. They can work together to deflect the ball at the sides of the net by setting up double blocks. Specialize in hitting the ball from the middle area of the net.


The position has special rules that allow for this player to come in and out of games to replace a back-row player at the coach’s will without having it count as a formal substitution. Usually, the libero substitutes the middle blocker in the back row. It is on defense where the libero position shines! This player is the best defender on the team, with the exceptional ability to react to the opposing team’s attack, dig, and pass the ball to the setter.
